F: 박스에 있어요.
R: 어느 지하실에 묻혀있어요. 기다려봐요(모두 웃음)
SS: 매드아이 스타일이네요.

Y: 아마 다음 편에선 아닐 것 같아요. 하지만 우리는 언제나 그의 재출연을 염두에 두고 있어요.
SS: 그린델왈드가 뉴욕시에 어떻게, 언제 도착해서 그레이브스를 습격했는지 아세요?
Y: 음.. 우리 영화가 시작한지 얼마 지나지 않아서, 라고 대답하겠어요. 제 추측이예요. 롤링이 나중에 정확히 얘기해줄거예요. 우린 문자 그대로 story beat 4일차에 시작했답니다. 하지만 시간으로 따지면 꽤나 최근이라 할 수 있죠.
SS: 뉴트의 형인 테세우스-필름에서 언급된 캐릭터 말이예요. 그들의 관계에 대해서 더 말해줄 수 있나요? 그의 얘길 또 듣게 될까요?

R: 명확하게 자기 위치가 공고한 사람이며 인사이더예요, 콜린의 캐릭터가 필름에서 가진 위치처럼요. 제 생각에 그는 뉴트와는 굉장히 다른 사람이예요, 제가 알기론 말이죠. 그는 자리가 딱 잡힌 사람이고, 제 생각에, 뉴트는 의식적으로 자기 자신을 anti-establishment라고 생각하진 않을 테지만 그가 사는 방식은 그의 마음을 따라서 사는 것이니깐요.
SS: 뉴욕시 근처를 날아다니던 블루 빌리윅은 어떻게 되었을까요? 다시 못 잡았잖아요.
Y: 아..불행하게도 갈매기밥이 되었답니다(모두웃음) 갈매기가 잡아먹어버렸어요.
SS: 왜 그린델왈드는 옵스큐러스를 원하고 크레덴스를 컨트롤 한 거죠? 어둠의 힘으로 그가 하려는 일이 뭔가요?
Y: 굉장히 희귀한 마법이에요. 그리고 아주 강력한 마법이죠- 옵스큐러스 말이예요. 그는 옵스큐러스를 무기로 삼고 싶어해요. 아주 간절히 말이죠. 그 어둠의 힘을 사용해서, 그의 적 중 하나에 맞서려는거죠, 기본적으로는요. 그래서 그의 의도는-무기화하는거예요. 그게 아젠다예요. 그리고 다음 편에서, 우린 그가 엄청난 파워로 무슨 일을 하려는지 그 의도를 더 많이 알 수 있을 거예요.

SS: 기차역에서 뉴트가 그레이브스에게 리벨리오를 사용하게 된 트리거는 뭘까요?
R: 제 생각에, 뉴트는 직관적이예요. 제가 느끼기에 그와 동물들의 관계는... 그는 제가 봤던 캐릭터 중에서 가장 본능적인 캐릭터 중 하나예요. 야생에서 시간을 보낸다는건, 그는 아주 훌륭한 리스너이고 아주 훌륭한 관찰자라는거죠. 그가 훌륭한 커뮤니케이터, 는 아니더라도 말이예요. 음 영화에 몇몇 장면들이 있었는데...뉴트가 지켜보고 관찰하는 장면들이 나오죠. 그레이브스와 티나의 장면에서, 뉴트는 그레이브스의 행동과 그의 젠틀한 권위성과 조종을 관찰해요. 그리고 감옥에 들어가기 바로 전 장면에서 그레이브스는 "greater good" 에 대해 이야기 하죠, 그리고 그 워딩은 - 보셨겠지만 말이죠- 뉴트는 그 워딩을 놓치지 않고 잡아내요.
SS: 옵스큐러스는 쓸모가 있겠다(using할 가치가 있겠다)는 그 말이요.

옵스큐러스에 대한 질문으로 돌아가자면, SS 팀이 첫 영화 내의 다크포스에 대해 질문함. 하지만, 영화 아주 마지막에 크레덴스의 옵스큐러스가 깜빡이는 장면에 대해 세 명이 묻자, 레드메인은 다음 영화의 스포일러를 할 수 없다는 뜻으로 입에 지퍼를 잠그는 시늉을 함. 포글러는 예이츠가 아래와 같은 질문을 받자 폭소.
SS: 그러니까, 영화가 거의 끝나갈 때, 크레덴스의 옵스큐러스가 깜빡이잖아요. 우리는 그게 기차역 밖으로 나가는걸 봤는데 말이예요. 그게 어디로 갔을까요?
Y: 음.. 그건 우리가 그가 아마도~ 아직 살아있을거라고 보여주고 싶어서 만든 사랑스러운 장면이죠. 왜냐면 우린 에즈라를 사랑하고 그가 하는 모든 걸 사랑하거든요. 크레덴스는 꽤 중요한 캐릭터에요. 살아있을까요? 알아봐야죠.
F: 갈매기가 잡아먹었어요(모두 폭소)
SS: 출판된 FB 스크립트에서, 마지막 장면에서 말이에요. 제이콥의 빵집이 메인 스토리 3개월 이후에 오픈했다고 나오잖아요. 퀴니가 베이커리를 방문해서 그를 만난게 그 때가 처음인가요? 그때 다른 캐릭터들은 뭘 하고 있었을까요?
R: 말 그대로 그 장면에 대해 생각하면 전 간질간질함을 느껴요.
F: 와우. 제 이론은- 그녀는 한동안 지켜보고 있었을거예요 그리고 그가 기억을 하고 있는지 알아봐야겠단 용기를 쌓아갔겠죠.
Y : 전 퀴니가 poked along해서 창문을 몇번씩 봤다는 아이디어를 좋아하죠.
SS: 그 때 다른 캐릭터들은 뭘 하고 있었을까요?
Y: 음 뉴트는 영국으로 돌아갔죠. 그리고 티나는 아마...다른 장소를 향해 갔을 거예요.
F: (속삭임) 아주 큰 미스테리예요
R: 누군가는 다른 어딘가로 갔겠죠...(모두 폭소)
F: 모르겠을 캐릭터는..갈매기 (If in doubt, it’s the seagull.)
SS: 크레덴스의 여동생 모데스티 이야기가 남았나요? 음 아니면 그저 영화에서 크레덴스가 옵스큐리얼이라는 사실을 묻히게 하려고 했던 캐릭터였을 뿐일까요?(red herring)
Y : 그건 아니예요, 아니예요. 그녀는 수수께끼같고 사랑스럽지만 아니예요... 아직 살아있어요.
SS: 영화 말미에 그린델왈드가 뉴트에게 말하잖아요, "Will we die, just a little?" 잡혀가기 직전에 말이죠.
Y: (제 생각엔) 우리는 이 놀라운 여행을 함께 하게 될 거야, 너하고 나 말이지. 이 여행은 우리 모두에게 엄청난 것을 요구할거야. 여행이 끝날때쯤, 우리는 꽤나 희생했을테고. 이 여행에서 우리는 꽤 많은 부분의 자신을 잃게 될 거야. Will we die, just a little?의 말은, 전 그런 뜻이라고 생각해요.
R 거의 초대와 가깝죠. 하지만 제 생각에 뉴트는 그게 무슨 뜻인지 몰랐어요. 하지만 데니좁이 그 말을 전달했을때는 정신이 번쩍 드는거죠.. 왜냐면 굉장히 이상한 초대니까요. 그 순간에는 무슨 말인지 알 수 없지만 제 생각에 그는 곧 깨닫게 되겠죠.
SS: 마지막 질문은 호그와트 기숙사에 관한 것이예요. 루퍼트 그린트는 후플푸프였구요 그리고 우린 루퍼트한테 놀랐냐고 물어봤죠. 루퍼트가 대답하길 약간 실망했다구, 왜냐면 후플푸프가 쿨한 기숙사는 아니라고 생각했기 때문이래요.
R: 제 말은, 후플푸프에 대해 전 공적인 서비스 선언을 했다구요(public service announcement). 너무 오랫동안 평판이 별로였어요, 새로운 시대가 열려가는데 말이에요.
F: 맞아 평판이 구려. 후플푸프 말이예요. 제 생각에 그들은...
R: 말 제대로 해요, 댄
F: 약간 긱 같죠. 너드예요. 사랑스럽죠.... 저처럼요. 학교를 졸업하면 그들은 놀라운 일들을 해낼거예요, 후플푸프 말이죠!

David Yates: Actually, that’s a really good question. In one sense I’d love to think that … actually, I’m not absolutely certain. I’d love to think he’s still alive because I’d love to bring Colin [Farrell] back at some point because I adore Colin, he’s such a wonderful actor and he brought so much to the movie. So in my version of the film he was probably alive somewhere all along. But I need to check with Jo [Rowling] because I’m not sure.
Dan Fogler: He’s in a box.
Eddie Redmayne: He’s buried in some cellar. Waiting. (all laugh)
SnitchSeeker: Mad-Eye style.
David Yates: Mad-Eye style. Exactly.
Eddie Redmayne: We love Colin.
Dan Fogler: Yeah, we love Colin.
David Yates: Yes.
SnitchSeeker: Will we ever see him again?
David Yates: Probably not next time around. But he’s always there in our thoughts.
SnitchSeeker: Do you know how and when Grindelwald first got to New York City and took over Graves?
David Yates: I would say not long after our movie story started. I’m guessing. Jo will tell you precisely. We literally started on day four on that story beat. But I would guess it would be fairly recent in terms of time.
Eddie Redmayne: He was never in this film but you heard from him. There was a letter at the beginning of the film as Newt was arriving in New York you heard, read, from his brother, and you got a sense he was an Auror, his brother, and that he was over in Europe and that he was …
Dan Fogler: Alpha.
Eddie Redmayne: … clearly quite established and well thought of within that community as Colin’s character references in the film. I think he’s very different from Newt from what I know, and he’s quite establishment, I suppose, and Newt, he wouldn’t consciously think of himself as anti-establishment but the way he lives is he follows his own heart.
SnitchSeeker: What do you think happened to the blue billywig that was flying around New York City? Because it wasn’t actually captured back.
David Yates: Unfortunately it got eaten by a seagull. (All laugh) It got gobbled up by a seagull.
David Yates: It’s very unusual for that magic to exist, and it’s a very powerful piece of magic, in a sense – an Obscurus. He was keen to weaponize it. To use that dark force to deal with one of his enemies, basically. So his intent was to weaponize it. That was the agenda. And in the next stories we discover more about what he intends to do with that extraordinary power.
Eddie Redmayne: I think that Newt is intuitive. I feel like his relationship with the creatures is … he’s one of the most instinctive characters I’ve ever read. I think, spending time in the wild, he’s a great listener and a great observer, even if he’s not a wonderful communicator. I think there are little moments in the film that you see him watching and observing. The scene that was cut between Graves and Tina in which, it was just an observation of his behavior and his gentle authority and manipulation. And there was also the moment just before that down in the cell in which Graves talks about the “greater good” and this notion that there is something that you can see – and Newt doesn’t miss that and picks up on it.
SnitchSeeker: That the Obscurus might be worth using.
Eddie Redmayne: Exactly. Why would you want to use it? So I think there’s a collection of points which are gently simmering there without needing to be seen.
When it came to questions about the Obscurus, the SnitchSeeker team asked about the dark force within the realm of the first movie. However, when the three were asked about the flicker of Credence's Obscurus seen at the very end of the film, Eddie promptly mimed zipping his mouth shut at that point as not to reveal spoilers for future movies. Dan Fogler himself laughed when Yates gave the answer provided below.
David Yates: It’s one of those lovely moments where we just want to suggest that maybe he’s still alive. Just because we love Ezra and everything he can do. Credence is quite an important character. So is he still alive? We’ll find out.
Dan Fogler: The seagull eats him. (all laugh)
Eddie Redmayne: It literally gives me tingles even thinking about that scene.
Dan Fogler: Oh wow. My theory is that she’s been watching from afar and then builds up the courage to see if he remembers.
David Yates: I love the idea that she’s poked along and looked in the window half a dozen times.
SnitchSeeker: Where do you think everyone else was during that time?
David Yates: Well Newt goes back to England. And Tina sort of heads off to ... another place.
Dan Fogler: (whispers) It’s a big mystery.
Eddie Redmayne: Someone else went somewhere else. (all laugh)
Dan Fogler: If in doubt, it’s the seagull.
David Yates: Not really, no. She’s so enigmatic and lovely, but she doesn’t … she’s still alive.
SnitchSeeker: What did Grindelwald mean at the end when he told Newt, “Will we die, just a little?” just before he’s taken away?
David Yates: You know, ultimately, I think that’s what he’s saying there is he’s saying, “We’re gonna be on this amazing journey together, you and I. And it will demand an enormous amount from both of us in what it will put us through. And in that journey, we will probably sacrifice quite a bit. We will lose part of ourselves on the journey. So that’s what that means, I think. Will we die, just a little?
Eddie Redmayne: It’s almost an invitation. But I think the point is that Newt doesn’t know what that means. But it is so sobering when Johnny [Depp] delivered it because it was this weird invitation that he couldn’t figure out in that moment but I presume he will.
Eddie Redmayne: I mean, I made a public service announcement about Hufflepuff. I feel like it’s had a bad rep for too long – rising to a new dawn, a new age.
Dan Fogler: Yeah, they get a bad rap, the Hufflepuffs. But I think they’re kind of like …
Eddie Redmayne: Say nice things, Dan.
Dan Fogler: No, they’re like the geeks. They’re the nerds. They’re the lovable … that’s what I am. I think that after school, they go on to do amazing things, the Hufflepuffs.
