한 번 듣고 지나쳐 버릴 수 있는 덤블도어의 어록들
지혜의 대명사로 알려져있는 덤블도어이지만, 덤블도어의 최고의 순간들 중 몇몇 장면들은 한눈에 알아보기에는 조금 어려운 것들이 있다.

잠깐만요, 네? 어떻게 덤블도어가 (the power of invisibility) 투명인간이 될 수 있다는거죠? 우리가 전혀 몰랐던 수많은 비밀들 중 하나일까? 아마도 그는 머글처럼 옷 입는 방식과 그리하여 군중속에 완벽히 섞여들어갈 수 있는 방법을 마스터했을런지도 모른다. 아니면 숨는데에 엄청난 재능이 있던지. 이 말을 통해서 우리는 그가 호그와트에서 일어나는 모든 일들을 어떻게 다 알고 있는지에 대한 힌트를 얻을 수 있을런지도 모른다. 어쩌면 한밤중에 복도를 살금살금 돌아다녔던 것이 해리 뿐만이 아닐런지도...

페티그루가 도망쳐 버린 이후, 덤블도어가 많이 염려했으며 이 그가 안심시키기 위해서 했던 말임은 분명하다(오역일 수 있음) 그는 수 년 후에 페티그루가 사망하는 순간을 정확하게 예측해냈다. 피터의 삶을 구해줌으로서, 해리는 스스로의 목숨 또한 구하였던 것이다. 덤블도어가 미래를 예견할 수 있었다고 하더라도.. 그렇게 놀랍진 않을 것이다. 아마도 트릴로니 교수로부터 예언을 들었었던 것인지?

애버포스 덤블도어가 처음 언급되던 이 순간은 명백히 우리의 시선을 사로잡는다. 덤블도어들은 자라면서 애완염소를 가지고 있었던 걸까? 대체 그의 남동생이 하려던 것은 정확히 무엇이었을까? 상상도 못 할 일이다! 이 사건에 대한 우리의 수-많-은 추측들에도 불구하고, 확실한 점은 딱 하나인데---우리가 제일 좋아하는 헤드마스터는 정말로 오픈마인드를 가진 사람이었다는 것이다. 덤블도어 자신의 어린시절에 대체 어떤 부도덕한 일들(indiscretions lurk)이 있었기에 그가 그렇게 이해심 많은 인물이 되었었는지, 우리는 그저 놀라워 할 수밖에.

이 네 단어는 덤블도어의 재미있는 별난 점(delightful eccentricity)을 알게 해 주는 단어 같지만, 그 이상의 의미를 가지고 있다. 아마도, 쓰리브룸스틱스에서 플리트윅 교수와 벌꿀술 한 잔을 했기 때문이었을까?(존나 의역) 신입생들의 긴장을 풀어주려던 영리한 전략이었을까? 그것도 아니면 아마도 그는 그저 자신에게 몰두하여 다른사람들이 어떻게 반응하는지 보려고 했던 것일 수도 있다. Nimble! Fluff! Dollop! Squelch! 사실 꽤 재미있지 않은가.
"아, 음악." 눈물을 닦으며 덤블도어가 말했다. "그 어떤 것보다도 멋진 마법이여!" -------해리포터와 마법사의 돌
우리는 덤블도어와 음악을 크게 연관시켜 생각하지 않았지만, 그는 확실히 학생들의 목소리에 감사를 표하고 있다. 호그와트 교가가 우리가 제일 좋아하는 노래는 아니지만, 덤블도어 자신이 어렸을 때 노래를 불렀을까 하는 의문을 갖게 되는 것이다.. 그는 심지어 교가를 작곡했었을 수도 있다...! 결국 덤블도어보다 교가를 즐기는 교수는 아무도 없는 듯 하다. 아니면 그냥 그가...음감이 엉망인 것일지도. 모두가 완벽하지는 않으니까.

덤블도어는 언제나 가장 위대한 마법사일 테지만, 그는 추켜세워지는 상황을 좋아하지 않았다. 그가 볼드모트에 대해 이야기하는 첫 순간, 우리는 그가 호크룩스를 만드는 과정을 언급하고 있다는 사실을 눈치채지 못한 것이다; 그가 대체 볼드모트의 계획들을 어떻게 추리해낸 것인지 정말 놀라울 따름. 하지만 덤블도어는 다크로드가 갖지 못한 수많은 능력들을 가지고 있었다. 음 일단 파나쉐 스타일의 플라워 보닛을 쓸 수 있었으니까......

덤블도어와 정기승차권---음 뭐 말 된다고 할 수도. 덤블도어는 순간이동도 쉽게 할 수 있고, 플루 네트워크로 여행하는것도, 빗자루 위에서 점프하는것도 쉽게 할 수 있는 사람이지만, 덤블도어가 머글들의 삶을 포용하고 중앙선을 애용하는 사람이라는 힌트인 것이다. 그는 또한 자기 무릎의 지도를 "유용하다"고 언급하였으며 이게 아주 흥미로운 점이다. 다이애건 앨리로 들어가는 비밀 통로가 있는 걸까?

덤블도어는 필요의 방을 어떤 용도로 사용했던 것일까? 아마도, 사탕과자 덕후인 그의 갈망을 충족하기 위해서 비밀 스윗샵? 그는 언제나 한 손에 셔벗레몬 사탕들을 쥐고 다녔으니 말이다.. 아니면 그는 해리에게 이 성 안에 아주 유용한 마법의 장소가 있다는 사실을 알려주려고 했었던 것일지도 모른다. 확실히 갑자기 생각나서, 보다는 더 유용한 말인 듯 하다.

왜 덤블도어는 모자에 거미를 그렇게 주렁주렁 달고 있었던 것일까? 이게 쉬는시간을 어떻게 보냈던 것인지에 대한 힌트가 될 수 있는 걸까? 우리는 덤블도어가 이 말을 한 이유는 단지 그와 해리가 위즐리네의 다 쓰러져가는 빗자루 창고(거미로 가득하였을)에 있었기 때문이라는 사실을 알고 있지만.. 다른 생각도 해 보고 싶으니까 말이지.

아 하여간 롤링 캐스팅 뜬 이후에 덤~~~~~~~~~~~~블~~~~~~~~~~~~도~~~~~~~어~~~~~~~~~~~~~꺄악~~~~~~~~~!! 하고 있는 느낌인데 좋겠다 본인은 캐스팅에 만족해서 난 톨앤띤에다가 외나와꺼져 하던 팬덤이 불링티쳐 좃셔틀로 쓰려고 시동거는 거 보고 정말 환장하는 줄 알았는데... 알겔이세요? 좋으시겟어요... 저는 톨앤띤 & 큰 새 래서 둘 다 얼굴작고 팔다리 길고 키크고 마릇한 체형들로 생각하고 있었는데 갑자기 한 때 날렸던 대두들의 모임이라니 좀 심란하거든....

Wait, what? How does Dumbledore have the power of invisibility? Is it one of many secrets we know nothing about? Maybe he's just mastered the art of dressing like a Muggle and blending in with a crowd. Either that or he's very good at hiding. It would explain how he seemed to know everything that was going on at Hogwarts, though perhaps it wasn't only Harry slinking around the corridors in the dead of the night…

Nothing is quite what it seems where Dumbledore is concerned and his comforting words after Pettigrew's escape are no exception. He accurately predicted the exact circumstances of Pettigrew's death years later; in saving Peter's life, Harry also saves his own. It wouldn't surprise us to learn Dumbledore could foretell the future — maybe he should have taken over from Professor Trelawney?

The first mention of Aberforth Dumbledore definitely got our attention. Did the Dumbledores have a pet goat growing up? What exactly was his brother trying to achieve? The mind boggles! Regardless of our many, many questions about this incident, one thing is for sure — it shows how truly open-minded our favourite headmaster is. We can only wonder what other indiscretions lurk in Dumbledore's own youth to make him so understanding.

These four words seemed like nothing more than evidence of Dumbledore's delightful eccentricity, but there could be more to it. A dare from Professor Flitwick over a glass of mead at The Three Broomsticks perhaps? A clever tactic to put the newly sorted first years at ease? Or maybe he was just indulging himself and wanted to see how everyone would react. Nimble! Fluff! Dollop! Squelch! It is quite fun, actually.
‘Ah, music,’ he said, wiping his eyes. ‘A magic beyond all we do here!’

We don't associate Dumbledore with music, but he certainly has an appreciation for his students’ voices. While the Hogwarts song isn't our favourite tune, it made us wonder if he ever gave singing a go in his youth. He could have even penned the school song himself — after all, none of the other teachers seemed to enjoy it quite as much as he did. Or maybe he's just tone deaf. Nobody's perfect.

As far as we're concerned, Dumbledore will always be the greatest, but he didn't like to brag. The first time we see him discussing Voldemort we don't realise at the time that he's likely referring to the practice of making Horcruxes; it's incredible to think just how clued up he was about Voldermort's plans even back then. Besides, Dumbledore has plenty of powers the Dark Lord did not — he could pull off a flowered bonnet with panache, for a start.

Dumbledore with an Oyster card — there’s an idea. He can easily Apparate, travel by Floo Network or jump on a broomstick, but here’s a hint that Dumbledore likes to occasionally embrace Muggle life and take a jaunt on the Central line. He also describes his map as ‘useful’, which is interesting. Maybe it’s a hidden gateway to Diagon Alley?
'Only this morning, for instance, I took a wrong turning on the way to the bathroom and found myself in a beautifully proportioned room I have never seen before containing a really rather magnificent collection of chamberpots. When I went back to investigate more closely, I discovered that the room had vanished.'

One can only wonder what else Dumbledore used the Room of Requirement for. A secret sweet shop perhaps, to satisfy his confectionary craving — he did always seem to have a generous stash of sherbet lemons on hand. Or he could have been giving Harry a hint that there was a very useful magical room hiding within the castle — it certainly came in handy on more than one occasion.

Why does Dumbledore have so many spiders in his hat?! Could this be an insight into how he spends his free time? Alright, we know Dumbledore only said this because he and Harry were in a run-down outhouse at the time, probably filled with spiders, where the Weasleys kept their broomsticks. But we like to pretend otherwise.
